Information Security Awareness Socialization by Faculty of Economics and Business Telkom University in Ngamprah District, West Bandung Regency

Information security is an increasingly important issue in the industrial era 4.0. Moreover, after Covid 19, the use of the internet in supporting various daily human activities in Indonesia is increasing. The use of smartphones and laptops (mobile devices) connected to public Wi-Fi is a common phenomenon that is easily found in cities in Indonesia. As a result, internet resilience and information security is one of the aspects that must be considered. The Chairman of APJII (Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association) stated that there were 37 billion data leaks with losses estimated at US$ 10.5 trillion per year by 2025 (Arini, 2022). Therefore, awareness of the importance of information security from users of internet services is becoming increasingly important.

To support the awareness of better information security, the Faculty of Economics and Business Telkom University held information security awareness counseling. The extension program team was chaired by one of the MBTI (Business Management of Telecommunications and Informatics) lecturers who is a cyber security expert, Ir. Candiwan M.ICT with members Dr. Deden Syarif Hidayatullah and Fajar Sidiq Adi Prabowo SE, MAB. In addition, the team was also supported by 3 (three) MBTI students namely Ravly Kaeza Gumelar, Anugrah Rizki Juliandri, and Jonathan Kenneth Andrew Putong. The team leader said that this abdimas activity is an implementation of the tridarma of higher education and is expected to provide benefits for teachers of Fitrah Insani Integrated Islamic High School (SMAIT) and the knowledge gained can be conveyed further to students so that the impact is even wider. In addition, the Team Leader also said that Abdimas Lecturers are very numerous at Telkom University and it is hoped that Abdimas can be carried out in other fields that are needed by Fitrah Insani teachers. To realize this, an MoU can be made between the Faculty of Economics and Business, Telkom University and SMAIT Fitrah Insani.

The target community of this counseling activity is SMAIT Fitrah Insani teachers and 28 people attended. High school teachers were chosen as the target community because of their wide influence on high school students who are novice users mobile devices. This outreach was held on February 24, 2024 at Jl. H. Gofur No.10, Tanimulya Village, Ngamprah District, Bara Bandung Regency, West Java. The counseling was opened with remarks from SMAIT Fitrah Insani, namely Mr. H. Khaerul Anwar, S.Pd.I as the Principal and a joint prayer led by Dr. Deden Syarif Hidayatullah. Dalam sambutannya, Kepala Sekolah menyatakan bahwa jajaran SMAIT Fitrah Insani sangat menyambut baik kegiatan Abdimas ini karena dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan para guru dan dapat memberikan manfaat yang nantinya dapat diteruskan lagi kepada para murid SMAIT Fitrah Insani.

 

Before counseling, pre-test A survey was conducted to measure the participants’ level of knowledge about information security. Then, counseling was conducted by covering 7 focus areas of HAIS-Q (Human Aspect of Information Security Questionnaire) namely password management, e-mail usage, internet usage, social networking usage, incident reporting, mobile devices and information handling (Atlanta, Candiwan, Sari, Sharif, 2022). Afterward, a question and answer session and discussion were held between the speaker and the participants. The QA session was intense and participants were very active in asking questions, indicating that they were eager to learn more about information security. A mini-quiz session with prizes followed the QA session to test participants’ newly acquired knowledge.

The counseling session was closed by filling out a questionnaire post-test, handover of plaques, and a group photo between the counseling team and the teachers of SMAIT Fitrah Insani. The event ended with lunch together. In addition, SMAIT Fitrah Insani hopes that this counseling event can be followed up with further counseling.
