[Abdimas] Improving the Teaching Competence of Darussalam Islamic Boarding School Teachers

Improving the teaching competence of Ponpes Darussalam teachers as an effort of community service by lecturers of the Faculty of Economics and Business Telkom University.

Technological developments followed by the pandemic conditions that have occurred have an impact on all lines of human life. One of them is the field of education, which in this case is pesantren with all its habits and forms of teaching. Government policies related to handling covid-19 from Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) to New Normal conditions with strict protocols force pesantren to do extraordinary work to adapt to the existing reality. Because it is certain that the da’wah and teaching activities of the pesantren are hampered because of the pandemic.

As the main entity in order to transmit religious messages to students and the wider community, pesantren must realize their shortcomings as well as complement their potential. The phenomenon of the digital divide, which is often labeled as pesantren, must be realized and addressed proactively. This pandemic fact directly urges and questions the existence of pesantren in the realm of digital and technology. If you look at the current conditions, there are various lessons for the dynamics of educational development in Indonesia, especially pesantren. The pesantren, which previously could be said to be apathetic and tended to maintain their traditionalist characteristics, began to change course to get involved and take part in digital and technological contestation. One of them is by creating interesting teaching materials.

Boarding school teachers are required to have the ability in the field of learning technology. Creating and designing teaching materials that are interesting and of interest to students is a challenge in itself. Due to the learning process, the students are not allowed to hold cellphones, so the use of applications is still not applicable at this time, so the most urgent training needs at this time are how to make effective and efficient teaching material videos that can be listened to by all students. This community service was carried out in November 2022 face-to-face with a total of 50 participants from the Darussalam Islamic Boarding School in West Java.

This Abdimas activity was carried out by lecturers and students of the Telecommunications and Information Technology Business Management Study Program (MBTI) of the Faculty of Economics and Business, namely Dr. Nidya Dudija, S. Psi., MA Indira Rachmawati, Ph. D, Attahriq Shidqi and Haifa Ninda Istifaroh.
